Programs
The School consists of the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, Department of Physics and Department of Chemistry and aims to lay a foundation in the Basic Sciences and to equip the students of other disciplines to make meaningful applications of their knowledge. The School of Basic Sciences not only contributes to the teaching of Basic Sciences in Professional and Technical courses but it also has a strong commitment towards creating new scientific knowledge driven by intellectual curiosity besides the desire to impart reliable information for applications. The faculty members are actively involved in conducting research in various areas. The School has rich learning resources for the students as well as faculty members.
The Department of Mathematics & Computer Science offers B.Sc.(Hons.) Mathematics, B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science and M.Sc. (Mathematics) besides a rich Doctoral program in Mathematics in order to nurture young minds towards embracing various scientific challenges. The Department also provides teaching support for varied courses in Mathematics which are apart from the curriculum of various Professional and Technical programs offered by the University. Teaching in the Department is aimed at proving a strong Mathematical background among students which helps to adapt the needs of emerging technology at National and International levels.

Why Basic Sciences
The study of basic sciences involves learning how to use and apply the already existing scientific knowledge in order to gain more practical advantages. In simple terms, the field of basic sciences involves more research-oriented work wherein inventions and advancements can be made to make our lives simpler and easier.
We practically live in a world where we are even unable to apply the already existing scientific knowledge and thus it is very important that young individuals take up a field as basic sciences to innovate or invent means of applying the existing knowledge for the betterment of the society.
