A Workshop was organized by Electrical Engineering department, SOE, BBD University on Tuesday, dated 24/9/2019 based on Topic: Programmable Logic Controller & Supervisory Control and Data AcquisitionThe workshop was delivered by Team Taxtron, Lucknow.

Workshop basically was for discussing roles of Industrial automation with the help of PLC & SCADA.  Industrial Automation is very important in Industries.

Then continued with the introduction to automation in industries, impact of automation and current emphasis of developed automation in industries, followed by the main tools of automation which are, Distributed Control system (DCS), Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition.(SCADA), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Instrumentation, Motion Control and Robotics. Then we have mentioned about the advantages and disadvantages about the development in industrial automation.

Some of these manufacturers are also improving the quality of their products by using robots with powerful machine-vision inspection equipment or by linking their robots to statistical process control systems. Robot fixtures can move quickly and fluidly without sacrificing accuracy.

The PLC receives information from connected sensors or input devices, processes the data, and triggers outputs based on pre-programmed parameters.

Depending on the inputs and outputs, a PLC can monitor and record run-time data such as machine productivity or operating temperature, automatically start and stop processes, generate alarms if a machine malfunctions, and more. Programmable Logic Controllers are a flexible and robust control solution, adaptable to almost any application.

SCADA :  supervisory control and data acquisition

A SCADA system gathers information, such as where a leak on a pipeline has occurred, transfers the information back to a central site, alerting the home station that the leak has occurred, carrying out necessary analysis and control, such as determining if the leak is critical, and displaying the information in a logical and organized fashion. SCADA systems can be relatively simple, such as one that monitors environmental conditions of a small office building, or incredibly complex, such as a system that monitors all the activity in a nuclear power plant or the activity of a municipal water system.

SCADA systems were first used in the 1960s.

The topics covered in this workshop are as follows:

  1. Relay
  2. Relay
  3. Instrumentation
  4. SCADA
  5. PLC
  6. HMI
  7. Industrial Networking
  8. AutoCAD
  9. Panel Designing
  10. VFD
  11. DCS

The welcome speech to the dignitary and students was delivered by the Mr. Virendra Kumar Maurya, Head of Department of Electrical Engineering, BBD University. At last vote of thanks was also given by Mr. Virendra Kumar Maurya, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, BBD University.
