Vice Chancellor

Professor Sri Krishna Srivastava is a distinguished academician and a visionary leader in higher education and possesses rich administrative & academic experience. Prof. Srivastava has joined as the Vice Chancellor, Babu Banarsi Das University, Lucknow, U.P. in August 2025 and brought a dynamic and innovative approach to institutional leadership. Prof. Srivastava has earlier served as the Vice Chancellor, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya(a premier Central University), during the period 2015-2021 where he successfully provided strategic leadership to the University. At NEHU Shillong, he has been the Chairman of various Statutory Bodies viz., Executive Council, Academic Council, Finance Committee and also other important committees like the IQAC, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-MMTTC) etc. Presently, Prof. Srivastava is a Member, Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati & also the Council Nominee, Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Pune (appointed by the Ministry of Education, Govt of India).

Prof. S.K. Srivastava has earned his M.Sc.& Ph.D. degree from IIT Kanpur. Prior to joining NEHU as the Vice Chancellor in September 2015, he served as a Professor, Department of Chemistry, Manipur University, Imphal (Manipur) since 1995. He pursued Post- Doctoral work at the University of Bristol, UK(a top QS World Ranking University), and was awarded the Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship. He has carried out research work in the frontier areas of Materials Chemistry & Nanotechnology, having research publications in highly reputed international journals published by the American Chemical Society & the Royal Society of Chemistry UK, etc. He was awarded the prestigious Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Bronze Medal in 2015, “in recognition of contributions to research in Chemistry”.

Prof. Srivastava has also been earlier associated with several prestigious Bodies/Committees in various capacities like: Visitor’s Nominee in Central Universities; Member, NAAC Appeals Committee; Member, General Council, AIU; Member, BOG IIM Shillong; in the Academic Councils of Central Universities, and; NAAC Peer Team Chairman/ Member; Member, National Steering Committee of e-Shodh Sindhu, MoE, GoI; Member, Executive Council, Central University of Jharkhand; Chairman, Management Committee, North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), Shillong; Member, Governing Council, North- Eastern Space Application Centre; Member, Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU); Member, General Assembly, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (under Ministry of External Affairs, GoI); Member, Governing Body & Society, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla; Member of the first Empowered Committee UGC-CARE; Convener/ Member of Search- cum- Selection Committees for appointment of Vice Chancellors (in Central/ State/ Private Universities); Ombudsperson, Central University of Rajasthan; Member, UGC Expert Group on Multidisciplinary & Holistic Education (NEP 2020 Implementation Committee); Vice Chairman, State Higher Education Council (SHEC), Govt of Meghalaya.

Prof Srivastava is an institutional builder and during his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of NEHU, he has been in the Task Force to establish& start the Assam Energy Institute, Sivasagar (Assam) in 2017, under RGIPT Jais, Amethi (U.P.) which is under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt of India. He also established Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College for Skill Development at Wahiajer, West Jaintia Hills District (Meghalaya). Further, ASEAN Study Centre (supported by MEA, GoI) was established by him at NEHU Shillong in view of the “Act East Policy” of Govt of India. On the invitation of NITI Aayog, GoI, he participated in several meetings on policy formulation regarding Mechanism for Networking and Partnership with Knowledge and Research Institutions and Vision Document. For over five years, Prof Srivastava was the Chairman of ICSSR – NERC (North Eastern Regional Centre), Shillong, & Chairman, SAIF (Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facilities, Shillong under Department of Science & Technology, GoI). He also executed several MoUs /collaborations (National/International) with premier institutions. He also contributed immensely to the Indian Himalayan Central Universities Consortium. Prof Srivastava has also been instrumental in formulating the Vision Document for the Central University of Andhra Pradesh as a Member of the Committee for “CUAP Vision – 2047”.

Under his leadership, BBD University strives to take a bold initiative aimed at fostering academic excellence in teaching, learning &research, innovations, incubation, entrepreneurship, skill development, social outreach, establish industry- academia linkages and National / International collaborations. Professor Srivastava is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, and providing healthy support system for the students, faculty& other stake holders. It will be his endeavor to “reposition” BBD University as a leader in both academic excellence and societal impact, committed to serve the noble cause of higher education for our Nation.
