INTRODUCTION
The School of Architecture & Planning at Babu Banarasi Das University organized an expert lecture on “Gujarat Town Planning Scheme: An Innovative Model for Planned Urban Growth.” The session aimed to familiarize students with progressive urban planning tools used in India for sustainable city development.
Mr. Himanshu Chandra, Assistant Director at RCUES Lucknow, who shared insights into the planning mechanisms adopted in Gujarat to manage urban expansion efficiently, delivered the lecture.
Urbanization in India is increasing rapidly, making systematic planning essential to ensure sustainable development, efficient land use, and adequate infrastructure. The Gujarat Town Planning Scheme (TPS) is considered one of the most successful models for urban land management in the country.
OBJECTIVES OF THE LECTURE
The main objectives of the expert lecture were:

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Mr. Himanshu Chandra is the Assistant Director at RCUES Lucknow, an organization that works on capacity building and research related to urban development and municipal governance.
He has extensive experience in urban planning policies, infrastructure development, and municipal management. During the lecture, he shared case studies from Gujarat demonstrating how planning tools can address urban growth challenges.
