Conducted in the first year, this one-semester course carries a total of 12 credits, covering Research Methodology, subject-specific knowledge, and a guide's course tailored to the research area. The syllabus for the first two courses is determined by the Board of Studies and Faculty Boards, while the guide's course is designed by the research supervisor to enhance research competency. The evaluation process includes internal assessment and university examinations, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive assessment approach. A minimum of 55% marks or a grade C is required in each course to continue the program. Candidates who fail to meet this criterion are given one additional attempt within six months.
Upon successful completion of coursework, scholars must apply for Ph.D. registration, submit a synopsis, and present their research proposal before the Research Degree Committee (RDC) for approval. Progress is monitored through biannual reports and presentations before the RDC. Non-compliance with these requirements may lead to cancellation of registration. Candidates may request a change in research title at least six months before submitting their thesis. Change of supervisor is permitted only under exceptional circumstances with Vice-Chancellor approval. The thesis must be submitted within a maximum of six years, extendable by two years under special conditions. Female scholars and persons with disabilities receive additional relaxation in duration. Before submission, scholars must publish two research papers and present their findings at conferences. The thesis undergoes a rigorous evaluation process involving external examiners, followed by a viva voce, where candidates defend their research before an academic panel.
